UDOT Begins New Concrete Improvement Project Through Provo Canyon | Public Spaces
UDOT has begun repairing and replacing 5 ½ miles of concrete on U.S. 189 in Provo Canyon beginning at the mouth of the canyon in Orem. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction until expected project completion this October. This work is necessary to preserve the pavement life and to ensure a smoother, safer ride for drivers. Crews will also install guardrail and work on bridges during the project.
Some important notes for drivers using Provo Canyon through the fall include:
- Motorists should expect some delay, especially on the uphill climb.
- Access will remain open to Sundance as well as Vivian Park and Nunns Park at all times.
- Cyclists are encouraged to use the trail between Nunns Park and Vivian Park for added safety.
- Closures will be required for curing and wet concrete and crews may not be present during those phases.
